I'm a first-time mom and I will share with you all how babies/toddlers can start reading and identifying the alphabet at a very young age.
If you are an expecting mom or already a mom with kids age 24 months below, you might be interested on how did my baby start identifying letters!
Disclaimer: My method may not work for others. Parental guidance is needed.
I know this is unbelievable until I saw and heard my daughter reciting some letters from our box of cartons (milk, cereals), our car's plate number, books, and many more.
Here are some of the letters she knows and how she pronounce them:
A - ah
B - ba / bee
C - ca / cee
D - dee
E - ee
F - fa
G - ga
H - ha
I - ii
J - ja
K - ka
M - mm
O - oh
P - pa
R - ra
S - ss
X - ex
Y - waay
Z - zee
These are all the letters I can remember that she knows how to read. When I am about to record her, she stops reciting and goes back to playing. I'm inserting some short clips below for some proof!
How did my baby amaze us?
My baby started watching nursery rhymes on our television when she was 6 month-old. I am fully aware that letting your kids at a young age watching television is strictly not recommended by our Pediatrician because it may delay their speech and may cause eyesight problems. ❌Pls, do not do this if not advised by your Pediatrician.
Unfortunately, I'm kind of a hard-headed mom and did not follow that rule.
✔ I just make pretty sure that my daughter only gets an hour per day of screentime. I remember that her first favorite show is Dave and Ava. I have read before that if you want your baby to learn and read the alphabet fast, make sure to teach your baby the phonic sounds first. I'm super glad that Dave & Ava has a learning video for that! Dave and Ava was the main foundation of my baby.
Up to date, she loves to watch nursery rhymes and other educational shows for toddlers. Besides watching, my daughter loves to go through her books. These were her first books.
✅Buy your baby more books than toys. Sometimes my baby will hand me the book and I will read the book for her, which she really really loves!
✅Always make a habit to have a minute or an hour per day to teach your baby the alphabet letters using flashcards. You can buy it at any bookstore or educational store near you or you can buy it online.
✅Have your baby listen to nursery rhymes instead of watching them. Repeat that every day! While listening, you can show her the letters from the books or flashcards! It will really help a lot!
✅Never get tired of the nursery rhymes that are playing in your bedroom, living room, or kitchen! Do-This-Every-Single-Day
✅ Always chat with your baby in a normal way, do-not-baby-talk!
✅ Repeat all the activities (Reading the alphabet for her, listening to Alphabet songs and etc) She will try to imitate your actions and will soon pick up the ability to identify alphabets too.
❎ Do not rush her if she is not in the mood. Let her be!
✅ Match her learning pace. Proceed to the next letter, only if you are sure that she’s learned the alphabet well so far. Repeat and revise the same alphabets over and over again, but in new and fun ways, until she gets them right.
✅ Identify what method works for your baby and just keep it fun for both of you!
Also, there's another youtube channel that I'm going to share with you (which is our super favorite show) that really helped my baby enhanced her speech, listening, and communication skills. Also learned how to sing and dance so cutie! They are Songs for Littles!
The host are Rachel, Jules & Herbie. They are all amazing! They are so sweet and my daughter really loves all their videos! Check them out to learn more! (This is not sponsored, I just love them and recommend them) lol
Hopefully, you learned some easy simple ways and steps to teach your baby! My goal right now is to continue to educate my baby and will share it with you all in the future.
